I KNOW YOU ARE GREEK - BUT CAN YOU BARBECUE?
Growing up in a Greek family in the South made for a large variety of food at mealtime.
We had everything from Mousaka one night to macaroni and cheese the next night. Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) were, and still are, one of my favorites.
I remember my Mother would let me help wrap the stuffing with the grape leaves.
At the time it never occurred to me someone would think it unusual to use grape leaves in cooking.
I also helped my mother at Christmas time making cookies. My Grandmother handed down a cookie recipe for Koulourakia cookies that both of them would make at Christmas time. My mother always wanted me to help her as the dough was very hard to mix. It had to be kneaded by hand for a long time to get the right consistency.
Both my Mother and Grandmother not only taught me to cook but to wash and iron my clothes, make a bed and how to clean the house. My Grandmother said being independent is more than walking out of the house. As always, she and my Mother were always right.
Unfortunately, when I went in the Army, it seemed like I was teaching everyone a lot of what my Grandmother and Mother taught me years ago. I do miss them both.
This is a collection of Greek Recipes, Barbecue Recipes, All Kinds Of Recipes, Stories and some Techniques to go with them.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
